About Nuclear Weapons

The first nuclear weapon, the atomic bomb, was invented by the United States during World War Two. Only two nuclear weapons have ever been used in war. One bomb destroyed the city of Hiroshima, Japan, on 6 August 1945 and a second destroyed the city of Nagasaki, Japan, on 9 August 1945. Over 200,000 people died and thousands more were injured.

A nuclear weapon can destroy everything in its path with an enormous explosive force which also releases tremendous heat and radioactive materials. These radioactive materials can cause illnesses long after the explosion.

Our dream for a world free of nuclear weapons is one filled with peace and hope, a world without war, without fear. What’s your dream?
